Campa, McNicol, and Etter sweep

Vince Campa, Chris McNicol, and Ken Etter had the distinction to sweep their respective classes, Pro Gas, Super Comp and Stock/Super Stock Combo, at the Memorial Day weekend association races at Auto Club Dragway in Fontana, Calif.

Campa, driving his ’34 Chevy roadster, was the number two qualifier for the Comstock Racing-sponsored SoCal Pro Gas first race of the weekend, and defeated points contender Dave Meziere, Bob Mendenhall, Travis Balough, and Ray Cordeiro on his way to the final where he defeated Paul Wiechmann, 9.96 to a 9.98. His clean sweep of the weekend came with a victory in the King’s Hawaiian Bread/B&B Electric-sponsored Sunday race, where he beat Evan Kowalski in the double-breakout final, 9.898 to an 9.880.

McNicol, a crewman on the Morgan Lucas Top Fuel dragster, won the SCEDA Super Comp trophies both days of the event with his sharp dragster. On Saturday he qualified number two and won his final round match against Chuck Babcock as Babcock broke out by .002.

The final race of the weekend saw the Palm Desert, Calif., racer knock out points leader Ryan Diosdado in the final, 8.934 to a too quick 9.887. Diosdado holds the series points lead with McNicol second.
