Six of the quickest and fastest period correct AA/GAS cars in the world made the trip including special guest Justus Daniel in his 1951 Henry J who ran a best qualifying time of 5.29 ET at 131 MPH; “Motoring” Michael Campolucci driving the “Code Blue” 1933 Willys coupe owned by Larry Morton who turned in a best qualifying time of 5.03 ET at 138 MPH; Al Niespodzinski Jr. driving the “Caged Heat” 1933 Willys coupe owned by his father, “Double A” Al Niespodzinski, clicking off a best qualifying time of 5.12 ET at 134 MPH; John Foust driving his brand new 1940 Willys coupe ran a qualifying best time of 5.14 ET at 136 MPH on only his third run on the new car; Tim Irwin in his 1948 Anglia “Crazy Man’s Toy” ran a best qualifying time of 5.33 ET at 130 MPH and defending club champion Jr. Ward, driving the “Junkyard Dog” 1934 Willys sedan owned and tuned by Jim Oddy turned in the #1 qualifying time of 4.95 ET at 140 MPH.
