Curt Wasson: The collage below does not show the complete package of Curt and his impact on St. Louis drag racing. He was an ambassador that traveled all over to race his cars. This included a black ’58 Pontiac that ran weekly at Alton Dragway, a black 'vette that won at Indy (NHRA) and Cordova (World Series), and a gold 'vette with a 6-71 blower that won the Bakersfield March Meet.  Then Curt built Superstitious, a ’68 Camaro Funny Car.

A few months ago, I brought you information on the St. Louis area. This major metropolitan location continues to be one of the most active areas in the country.  When you consider the sheer number of major events at Gateway International Raceway today and the early days at Alton, St. Louis has always been a major drag racing location. For the last ten years, it is the headquarters of DRO. The St. Louis area needs help right now, as Gateway is being closed. 57 years of continuous drag racing action, (Alton Dragway, Mid-America Raceway & Gateway International), may come to an end, if the powers of business force another prime track out of action. Whether these issues can be resolved quickly and save the 2011 season remains to be seen.
