In the thick of action at Orange County Raceway’s Bracket races was ‘Super Pickle’. It too is an earlly model Henry J (no trunk lid). Most Bracket regulars remember the green Henry J at the ‘County’.

If you are old enough to remember racing at night in Southern California (Lions, Irwindale or Orange County), you owe even more thanks to Henry J. Back in 1931 he led a consortium of six companies who constructed the Boulder Dam and brought both electric power and water to the California desert. Kaiser was then asked by the Federal government to head up construction of the Grand Coulee project in Western Washington, which he did. It was there, in what was then a very desolate area, that Henry Kaiser started the first Hospital – Medical project in order to keep his workers fit and on the job.Today that humble effort along the Columbia River has grown to mega size and is Kaiser Permanente.

And in Fontana is this new type, medium size, Kaiser Permanente Medical facility which replaces the once proud Steel Mill as the flagship of the Henry J Kaiser foundation.

Until next time, be on time.
