When Chevrolet withdrew from racing sponsorship (again) in late 1970, Pro Stock seemed destined to be a one brand category. However the original winner, Bill Jenkins, showed up at Pomona’s 1972 Winternationals with a small block Chevrolet-powered Vega which he persuaded NHRA to give a better weight break; they did and he won!

And so the small car revolution was upon us. Within weeks, would-be racers like Lee and Mike Hunter were entering the Pro Stock wars with Pintos and Vegas galore. Pro Stock would never be the same as when it started. A tried and true equation of 7.0 #s per cubic inch worked for years in B/Gas, B/SR, and B/A, but no longer in Pro Stock.
