Make no mistake, in his early days, Bill was a dedicated campaigner best known for his Gasser style ’55 Chevy. He is shown here taking on a ’60 Corvette one evening at Beeline Dragway.

A special guest at the recent Arizona Drag Racing Reunion was J.R. Bloom. Retired now and living north of Phoenix in the Camp Verde area, J.R. became a leading historian for Arizona drag racing, writing and photographing much of the area’s action. Now in his nineties, he can also be remembered as competition for the Goosic Brothers #888 roadsters ‘back in the day’. He used a Buick straight 8 engine with six Stromberg 97 carbs to power his version of an A/Hot Roadster. Of course he used 100% nitro for fuel. Recently he brought this 1938 Buick Coup to a Reunion held at Speed World Dragway before it closed.
