After an hour or so of double checking everything we got the “fit” we wanted. The Strange coupler now slides on easily and is perfect alignment.

As has been the case since I started racing (a long time ago, believe me!) we are using MSD Ignition components. Starting with their 7530T Digital-7 Programmable ignition, their super reliable Crank Trigger set-up and the MSD billet distributor and a set of MSD Super Conductor plug wires. We opted for the fiber-optic ignition sync (allows individual cylinder timing adjustments) and the hand-held Programmer. I have used the Digital 7 ignitions since they were first introduced. They have been an important part to our success in recent years as they are easy to program for different needs.

For example we have built programs for Quick 16 races with pre-set retards for nitrous use, more retard on the shifts for tracks that are not very good in hot weather, and slower timing curves after launch to take some of the “snap” out of the combination if it is hot and the track a little greasy. You can use a basic laptop, like we do, or the Hand-held Programmer does the same thing for under $100.

Here is a photo the MSD Digital 7 Programmable Ignition. Model 7530T. Easy to program and once it is set up it is trouble-free. If you ever want to try something new like a retard curve, shift points, start retard, launch rpms, etc it takes only a couple minutes.

Whether you choose the Digital 7 ignition or one the MSD 6 or 7 series ignitions a crank trigger is the best way to insure accurate spark timing. I have used nothing but MSD Crank Triggers for 7 years and never had a problem. The nice part is it actually bolted on: no grinding or filing ever. One tip I have had success with is to keep the crank trigger wires twisted together and keep them away from the coil wires if possible.
