FUELforTHOUGHT

Dave,
I run a 565 Pontiac motor in a 1986 Ford T-Bird
in NHRA Super Gas and bracket race without the
throttle stop between events. Of course, consistency
is my goal.
I have two BG Dominators on a Hogan's Tunnel Ram that is made for the 10045427 casting numbered Pro Stock Pontiac heads. It has nitrous ports (plugged) on the intake runners. I am toying with the idea of removing the two carbs and installing two throttle bodies and injectors in the nitrous ports with computer control. Is this feasible and, if so, what parts would be recommended? Also, I have been considering switching from C-14 to alcohol, but am told by friends that I am asking for maintenance fatigue. Does the alky have to be totally removed from the tank, lines and everything else between races?
Thanks for answers,
Gordon
Gordon,
This seems like a plan to me.
The biggest problem will be finding the right
EFI company who has the software and the injectors
that will work with alcohol and fits your budget.
EFI and budget do not usually get spoken in
the same breath.
The alcohol maintenance is
not a big deal. If the car is sitting for more
than a couple of days, you should be draining
your fuel anyway as the

chemicals the companies put in the gasoline
that make it do its magic will evaporate away.
Alcohol in the same time frame
will absorb moisture, which goofs with your
tuneup a little. You can use an additive in
the alcohol, which is available from your supplier,
that keeps any corrosion from this alky/moisture
mix at bay. The bottom line in my book is to
remove the fuel between races and blow out the
lines. Regardless of how you go about this,
I think you will like the alcohol switch.
Have a safe race,
