Leah Pritchett, NHRA Top Fuel points leader and Don Schumacher Racing driver, is scheduled to appear as a live guest on the HLN network’s program “Morning Express with Robin Meade” on Thursday, May 4.
The interview will take place in their Atlanta studios in advance of the Lucas Oil NHRA Southern Nationals. The interview is set to take place at approximately 9:40 a.m. EDT. [05/03/17]
This year, the K&N Spring Fling presented by Optima Batteries moved from its home at Bristol Dragway for the past seven years to the new Galot Motorsports Park in Dunn, NC.
Thirty-two entries of those received were pulled out of a hat to be part of the Dragster Shootout field. Going into the semifinals were Paul Warick, Jeff Dobbins, Jason Lynch and John Taylor Jr.
Warick, driving a door car, and Lynch met in the final round. Although Warick’s Nova left first because of a slower dial-in, Lynch had the better light, but Warick’s car ran closer to his dial, taking the win light by less than one-thousandth of a second.
“I’ve driven a dragster before, but I just like door cars,” Warwick admitted. His prize for winning was a choice of either an American Race Cars or Racetech dragster. Lynch received the one not chosen by Warick.
Racing continues throughout the week. [05/03/17]
Because of rain and cold temperatures in the forecast, the Thursday, May 4, Rocky’s Rental race at Michigan’s Milan Dragway has been moved back a week to May 11. The Friday, May 5, Aeroquip Heads Up race will also be moved to next week on May 12. [05/03/17]
VOLUME XIX, NUMBER 4 - April 2017
No one in Pro Stock has had a quicker racecar than Jeg Coughlin Jr.'s JEGS.com/Elite Performance Chevrolet Camaro at the last two NHRA drag races, which has the 58-time national winner excited about his prospects heading into this weekend's 37th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway.
"Credit this Elite Motorsports group," Coughlin said. "These guys have been working so hard, so many late nights, so many off days, to get my car and Erica (Enders') car back to the top of the class like they were in 2014 and 2015 when she won back-to-back championships.
"They pretty much dominated the sport those two years and we switched brands last year and it didn't work out like we had hoped so they switched everything back. It's so satisfying to see the cars respond and to feel the energy in the pit. It's
really cool."
Not only has Coughlin been top qualifier for the last two races, but last weekend in Charlotte, Enders qualified No. 2, putting Elite Performance-powered racecars 1-2 on the grid for the first time this year.
"It's been very encouraging to say the least," Coughlin said. "But I know we'd trade these No. 1 qualifiers for race wins any day. That's the next thing on the to-do list, to be honest, and I don't care if it's me, Erica or (teammate) Vincent Nobile that gets it done. We want all of our cars to do well.
"The Pro Stock class is so close right now. We've had six different winners in the first six races! How's that for parity? Now we need to add a seventh different winner this weekend in Atlanta." [05/03/17]
Dickie Venables tuned Matt Hagan to back-to-back event titles at the first two NHRA races of the season in the Mopar Dodge Charger R/T Powered by Pennzoil. Last week, however, they hazed the tires at the starting line and finished last in the four-car final round at zMax Dragway.
This week they return to Atlanta where they are the defending event winners.
But all the teams could be thrown for a loop this weekend where typical "Hotlanta" conditions won't be the case. Friday's forecasted high is 57 degrees with Sunday's high in the low-70s.
"It's going to be interesting for sure," Hagan said. "I feel so confident no matter where we go with Dickie (Venables) making the calls. If the track can hold the power, I have no doubt he'll be telling me to pull my buckles down tight and hold on."
The Southern Nationals is the third race in three weeks for the Mello Yello tour. [05/03/17]

Aeromotive will sponsor a Hot Rodders of Tomorrow qualifying event in conjunction with the company’s annual open house and car show on Saturday, May 13, in Lenexa, Kansas. [05/03/17]
Jennifer Hoffman's Top Dragster will be participating in the Top Comp class. Hoffman's last big win was the 2015 NHRA Jegs Pacific SPORTSnationals at Fontana, CA.
This weekend’s (May 5-7) NHRA National Open at Sacramento Raceway Park will feature the NHRA sportsman classes including Stock/Super Stock combo, Top Comp (Top Dragster Top Sportsman combo), Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Chassisworks/NHRA ET Racing and Junior Dragsters.
The Pro Gas Door Slammers (A/Gas-E/Gas) will also race on Friday afternoon, with eliminations starting at 4 pm on Saturday. The NHRA classes will qualify on Saturday, with eliminations beginning on Sunday morning. The Junior Dragsters will have full eliminations on both Saturday and Sunday. [05/03/17]
The 47th annual NAPA Ignitor will open the season at Firebird Raceway near Boise, Idaho, on May 5-7.
This will mark the first race with Bobby Cottrell driving for Bucky Austin. Former driver Kris Krabill won the AA/FC class last year. [05/03/17]

All-in-One EFI Fuel Filter/Regulator from Holley
NOS has released their first dedicated “dry” nitrous Fogger© nozzles designed specifically for use with multi-stage/direct-port EFI engines. NOS now has everything from single-stage systems for weekend bracket bombers to intricate multi-stage setups for the ground-pounding power of today's 3,000-horsepower Pro Mods. The single-stage nozzle, Fogger SS1, is made from corrosion-resistant 303 stainless steel for maximum strength, durability, and flow. The Fogger Ti2 and Fogger Ti3 nozzles are constructed from billet titanium, which is 45 percent lighter than steel yet twice as strong as aluminum. Both have the same features as single-stage SS1s, but with internal profiling to minimize restrictions and maximize flow. For more information go to here. [05/03/17]
