And now for something completely different: Water Rocket Trike

It’s Friday and the Agent likes to bring you some lighter items. Here’s one you’re going to love.

Francois Gissy of France recently rode a homemade trike propelled by rainwater and compressed air to 261 km/h (162 mph) while accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 0.55 seconds.

The run was made at the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet, France. (Kids, don’t try this at home.)

Brown hopes to overtake Torrence as Countdown begins

Antron Brown has been neck-and-neck with Steve Torrence for most of the regular season, matching him on round wins (44) and advancing to 10 final rounds. But Torrence has seven victories to Brown’s four and won in Indy, taking a 20-point advantage into the Countdown to the Championship. But Brown relishes these moments, in part because of a mindset that never has him looking too far ahead.

“For our team, we’ve been in these Countdown races for quite some time now and what we’ve found to help us is to focus on one round at a time,” said Brown, who has 65 career wins. “If you look at the whole picture, you lose focus on what’s right in front of you. We focus on every little baby step in front of us and do it to the best of our abilities. That’s what really propels us and I think that’s the key element. It starts with your first run in qualifying. That sets the tone and then we see what we have to do to win the next round. That’s the element that really makes it happen.”

‘Street Car Take Over’ held at Tucson Dragway

Mike O’Donnell (far lane) took the 11.0 final over Jeff Kickhoss.

The Street Car Take Over group sponsored by Monster Energy drink was held Sept. 8-9 at Tucson Dragway. The event featured drag racing by street-driven cars with 11 Index classes.

This 1937 Dodge pickup with a modern 6.4 liter Hemi engine won the Truck class.

While not exactly a street car, the Ciolec Family’s twin turbo Mustang driven by Brian Ashworth was certainly popular with the fans.

Plenty of paving at new Iowa track

The past week has been busy at the new Onawa Race and Events Complex (OREC) in Onawa, IA.

Projects included work inside the events center (bathrooms, concessions, offices, etc.), additional concrete barrier wall installation on the dragstrip, assembly of a grandstand seating section, and preparation and paving of the pit roadway, return roads and staging lanes.

“We are taking full advantage of the dry weather and getting a lot work underway or completed,” said Scott Gardner of Gardner Race Track Consulting.

GRTC consultant Dan Driscoll just wrapped up a two-week stint at OREC and will return next week to keep the momentum going.

PJ North to entertain at December PDRA Awards Banquet

The Professional Drag Racers Association always celebrates their World Champions with a ceremony held each year in conjunction with the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show.

The 2017 PDRA Championship Awards will once again be held at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown on Saturday, Dec. 9. The Awards will be held in the Indiana Ballroom and will feature a buffet dinner and the Awards program, followed by music and dancing to end the night.

New this year, the Championship Awards welcomes hit recording artist PJ North (ThePJNorth.com). North, a Nashville based singer who is breaking genre boundaries with his own style of Country music infused with Pop and Hip-Hop, found a home with drag racing fans thanks to his songs about the sport.

As a Stock and Super Comp racer himself, North is passionate about drag racing, evidenced through songs like Be 00 Take 00, Glory, and a theme song for two time NHRA Pro Stock Champion Erica Enders-Stevens, Racing in Red.
