Lest you think the SEMA Show attendees spend all day walking the huge convention floor and all night resting their weary tootsies, Dave Wallace Jr. has sent us photos of the SEMA banquet’s entertainment Thursday night. That’s Billy Gibbons, Jimmie Vaughn, and Michael Anthony with Vaughn’s Tilt-A-Whirl band on stage rockin’ the night away. [11/03/17]
Chris Borges
The postponed Pacific Division Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event from Rocky Mountain Raceways was concluded Thursday, Nov. 2, at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas.
Michael Dalrymple, Sunnyside, Wash., cut a great light (.010 second), running 10.060 seconds, 156.66 mph in his ’68 Camaro to outpace Casey Plaizier, Edmonton, Alb., for the Super Gas divisional event Wally trophy. Plaizier’s ’63 Corvette ran 10.067 seconds, 142.49 mph.
Utah racer, Bryan Warr of Riverton, ran 7.111 seconds, 191.35 mph in his 2004 Corvette to edge out the ’11 Cobalt of John Tiegen, Grand Praririe, Alb., 7.406 seconds, 180.50mph in a competitive Top Sportsman final round.
In the Super Street final round, Chris Borges of Roseville, Calif., took a slight lead off the starting line in his ’69 Chevelle, racing to victory at 11.057 seconds, 131.02 mph. Josh Dalrymple, Sunnyside, Wash., was unable to meet his brother Michael in the winner’s circle, as he broke out in his ’67 Camaro attempting to chase down Borges running 11.024 seconds, 148.72 mph. Just a reminder that most of the U.S. will move to Daylight Saving Time Sunday morning. So, set your clocks back and get an extra hour to sleep in the morning. [11/03/17]
Emilio Spinozzi and his team have finished their first test of a blown Chevelle doorslammer at Sydney Dragway. The ’69 Chevelle body was by McCoy Racecars in the U.S. and the chassis by SCF.
“I was very impressed with how our first test day went, the whole team did an outstanding job and adapted very quickly. Ultimately, after endless hours of hard work it comes down to launching the car and letting it tell us what it wants," explained Emilio. "The second launch did exactly that. It has given the team enough information to go away and build from".
Michael Marriott, Spinozzi Racing's crew chief added, "We appreciate it will be a steep learning curve. Emilio did an incredible job driving a total different race car.”
Spinozzi began racing 16 years ago in Super Street and then moved through Super Sedan and Super Stock to Pro Stock before moving to Doorslammer.
The team will do more testing in mid-November. [11/03/17]
Mothers PowerCone 360 Precision Polisher
With all the cars shined up for display at the SEMA Show, we thought a polish product would be in order for today’s new product. Mothers has redesigned one of their polishing tools to deliver fast and easy polishing of previously unreachable wheel surface. The innovative, tapered design and patented foam fingers allow for smoother transitions to help create a deeper shine. Its conical shape lets you get into the nooks and crannies without busting your knuckles. [11/03/17]
