RACE REPORTS

Melanie Salemi (near lane) set the Pro Boost record of 3.624 seconds in the second round and got the final round win over Kurt Steding. She wasn’t the only driver to set a record.
The 2018 Professional Drag Racers Association season came to a dramatic close Monday afternoon, Oct. 22, as world champions were crowned and world records were broken at the 4th annual Brian Olson Memorial PDRA World Finals at Virginia Motorsports Park.

Cruz Pedregon will build on the good runs his Snap-on Toyota has been showing and replicating that tuning during the upcoming weekend in Las Vegas.
"We’re pleased with the strong numbers we’ve been seeing in the 3’s and have had a series of round 1 wins, so we plan to stick with that game plan and go more rounds in Vegas Sunday,” Cruz said.
“The El Cucuy ‘boogieman' body is making a positive impression in its Pink Fund paint scheme. All of us know or have someone in our lives impacted by breast cancer. So, we hope having ‘Socket to Breast Cancer’ on the car is helping to raise awareness of The Pink Fund. Our primary sponsor, Snap-on, is supporting the nonprofit in its mission to connect individuals undergoing breast cancer treatment to the help they may need with non-medical expenses.”
Crew Chief Tommy DeLago said, "We’ve had four runs of 3.94 or better, and we like the way the season is finishing out for Cruz and the Snap-on Toyota. We qualified in the top five and won a round for the fourth straight race. Even though we’re not in the Countdown, we’re racing as though we are, and it’s paying off in the numbers we’re seeing."
This is the final race for the pink Snap-on "Socket to Breast Cancer" logo on the sleek black background. Cruz’s sponsor Snap-on is making an initial $50,000 donation and The Pink Fund will receive additional funds generated through Snap-on sales promotions. Find out more at Pinkfund.org. [10/23/18]
Kenny Bernstein, Roland Leong and Greg Sharp will be the veteran racers to end the NHRA Legends Tour for the year at Pomona on Nov. 8-11.
Bernstein is the longtime driver known as the “Budweiser King” in Funny Car and Top Fuel. He retired from driving at the end of the 2011 season after 33 years of racing. Driving a TF dragster, in 1992 he recorded the first 300-mph run.
Leong is best known for a series of “Hawaiian” Top Fuel dragsters and Funny Cars. After retiring from driving, he turned to serving as crew chief for several FC teams. He is still lending his tuning abilities to various nostalgia race teams.
Sharp is a former racer and longtime curator of the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum. He is credited with coining the term “Cacklefest,” a major component of the Museum’s two popular events, the California Hot Rod Reunion and National Hot Rod Reunion.
The Legends Tour wraps up next year in Gainesville, FL, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Gatornationals on March 14-17. [10/23/18]

PRW Engine Test Stand
According to engine builder Jon Kaase, his company’s new SR-71 Big Block Ford Cylinder Heads will out-flow and out-power any conventional big block Ford head. Extensive dynamometer tests have demonstrated average gains of 50 hp and similar peak gains over best existing cylinder heads. In addition, the useable engine speed range is increased by a minimum of 500 rpm and when installed on a maximum-effort 598 cid engine, they will produce over 1100 hp and rev to 8,000 rpm. Raised intake entry ports; 100% CNC-machined in-house on 5-axis Hurco; Compatible with Super Cobra Jet intake manifolds; and Fits all conventional engine bays. [10/22/18]
