The Agent's mayo jar on the front porch of the Phlegm Building had a note in it this morning written on the back of a Pro Stock ET slip from Las Vegas with the information that the NHRA has already told their Pro Stock teams they will only race 16 National events in 2019. This rumor is likely true considering that is basically what NHRA management wanted to do for the class in 2018. Cutting the number of races for Pro Stock from 24 to 16 will practically guarantee no significant (corporate) sponsorships for the class.    [10/30/18]

Severance clinches TAD championship

Joey Severance raced to the event win at the NHRA Toyota Nationals at Las Vegas and clinched the NHRA Lucas Oil Top Alcohol Dragster World Championship.

 

Severance, Woodburn, OR, locked up his 4th straight title with a final round pass of 5.266 seconds at 275.28 mph in his final round victory over Julie Nataas, Santa Barbara, CA, who clocked in at 5.369 seconds, 271.95 mph making this Severance’s 23rd national event win.

 

Sean Bellemeur, Placentia, CA, who has already clinched his 2018 Lucas Oil World Championship, faced off with Doug Gordon, Paso Robles, CA, in the Funny Car final clocking in at 5.517 seconds, 264.65 mph with Gordon right on his heels with a 5.488-second, 269.24-mph lap for his runner up finish.

Chevrolet introduces 2019 COPO and electric Camaros for drag racing

Chevrolet introduced an anniversary-themed 2019 COPO Camaro race car Monday, Oct. 29, celebrating the 50-year milestone of the special order, ultimate performance models at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Featuring a special Anniversary Blue Metallic exterior color that pays homage to the original Laguna Blue offered in 1969, the SEMA show car's available engine lineup includes a revised version of the supercharged, LSX-based 350 engine, now featuring a 2.65L Magnuson supercharger as well as a 302-cubic-inch engine. Show-goers get a closer look under the hood of the eCOPO Camaro Concept - an electrified vision for drag racing - at the SEMA Show. Developed by General Motors and built in partnership with the pioneering electric drag racing team Hancock and Lane Racing, the concept race car — based on the 2019 COPO Camaro — is entirely electric powered, driven by an electric motor providing the equivalent of more than 700 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. Lopez scores double-up at Thunder Valley

Jeff Lopez, Irving, TX, claimed titles in both Super Gas and Stock Eliminator in the final results from Thunder Valley Raceway Park and the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.

 

Lopez faced off against Jay Bunce, Piedmont, OK, in Super Gas and posted a winning run of 6.315 seconds, 124.06 mph in his ’63 Corvette. Bunce drove to a 6.344-second, 127.98-mph lap for a close runner up finish.

 

In his second final of the day, Lopez worked his way through the Stock Eliminator field and ran 5.869 seconds at 116.64 mph in his victory over Greg Stanfield, Bossier City, LA, who clocked in at 6.627 seconds, 99.32 mph. These were Lopez’s 15th and 16th Lucas Oil Series victories.

 

Koy Collier took home the win this weekend in Super Comp. Collier, Benton, LA, drove to a pass of 5.700 seconds at 131.61 mph against Christopher Dodd, Double Oak, TX, who had an impressive runner up finish of 5.706 seconds at 146.65 mph. This was Collier’s third Lucas Oil Drag Racing win.

Clarification: Only PM and TS classes at Elite 16/MWPMS event

Yesterday’s Mid-West Pro Mod Series press release suggested Radial vs. the World and X275 classes would race within the MWPMS World Finals this weekend at the Texas Motorplex. However, when the original MWPMS World Finals were postponed from Tulsa early this month, both classes were deemed to have completed their seasons.
