RACE REPORTS

Chris Holbrook just misses David Barton, who had come into the right lane and hit the wall during the first round of Factory Stock at the Gatornationals.
Regular NHRA Pro Stock driver Drew Skillman set a new record and won the Factory Stock Showdown at the Gatornationals, his first time racing in the class. See how the Mustang drivers dominated the event and more details of Barton’s crash at here. [03/29/19]
Here’s a look at the '51 Studebaker of Shawn Bagileo of Lancaster, CA, that took part in the NHRA National Open last weekend at Auto Club Fontana. It ran 14.7 at over 90 mph in the Sportsman class. Although he didn’t win, that car is just too cool and we had to share it with you! See the race results at here. [03/29/19]
Thomasville, North Carolina’s Gary Ingold drew first blood Thursday when he beat former Carolina Coalition champion Tommy Plott of Winston-Salem by a razor thin .001 of a second to win the $5,000 prelim to the ATI Performance Products Top ET Challenge which begins today (March 29) at rockingham dragway.
After seven rounds of racing, Ingold, a racer not unfamiliar himself with the Rockingham Dragway winners’ circle, made a .007 of a second starting line advantage hold up for the win. Ingold, 4.677 on a 4.660, 145.97 mph, def. Plott, 4.631 on a 4.620, 148.62 mph.
Semifinalists Thursday were Shawn Carpenter of Elm City and Tim Phipps of Kenansville, whose 1998 Chevy Monte Carlo was the longest surviving door car.
The ATI Top ET Challenge pays $10,000 to Friday’s winner, $20,000 to the last man or woman standing on Saturday and another $10,000 to the Sunday champion. [03/29/19]
The Agent found a photo wrapped in several layers of a rain slicker in the old mayo jar high atop the second-story Phlegm Building penthouse porch this morning. Omaha resident Mike Cavalieri, owner of www.HemiPartsKing.com, sent this photo of the I-29 Dragway just across the border in Iowa after the massive flooding that has covered the area recently.
Cavalieri says the facility, which also includes the Mid-America Motorplex road course and offices/meeting rooms, will be rebuilt. You can’t keep racers down for long. [03/29/19]
The double-race weekend features Super Pro and Pro, along with the Jr. Dragster, Street and Quick 16 categories. [03/29/19]
Eight jets will take to the track during the annual Festival of Power over the Easter weekend (April 19-21) at Santa Pod Raceway. In addition, Herve Franquin’s Peugeot-bodied show car from France will light up the adjacent Live Action Arena.
The European Funny Car Series will also be a part of the festivities along with the Pro Modifieds of the MotorsportUK British Drag Racing Championship. [03/29/19]
Jackson Collier, was the winner last year at the Motorplex.
The NHRA South Central Division Moser Sportsman Shootout is set to take place on Saturday, April 6, with a stacked field. The specialty event is contested in conjunction with the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series doubleheader weekend at Texas Motorplex.
Slate Cummings, Austin Williams, Henry Kindle, and Koy Collier will all be returning from last year to race once again for a chance at the title.
Through a season long point’s battle in 2018, the top two Moser Sportsman Shootout point’s earners in each of the seven classes in competition are slotted into the 16-car field while Max McGlothin and Rick Legaux will complete the ladder as the Moser Shootout Wild Card entries.
The Moser Sportsman Shootout is unique in that racers from seven entirely different class structures Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Super Street, Top Dragster and Top Sportsman will be racing each other. Eliminations will be in a dial-in/breakout handicap format on an eighth mile. [03/29/19]
NASCAR and Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) officials will play up the patriotism theme next year when the Brickyard 400 moves to the Fourth of July weekend. The event remains scheduled for Sept. 8 this year, but will move to Sunday, July 5, next year.
Attendance has been dwindling for the event which drew 275,000 fans in 1994 but was down to an estimated 35,000 by 2017. The July 4th holiday had belonged to Daytona International Speedway, but it gave up the traditional and often rain-wrecked event to claim the final race of the regular season, Aug. 29 when the championship field is finalized.
NASCAR has made significant changes to its 2020 schedule due to complaints from fans and the industry as a whole. [03/29/19]
Heatshield Products FR Shields for Fuel-Injected Engines
Heatshield Products has released its new FR Shields for fuel-injected engines. They install over the fuel rails to limit heat transfer from the engine to both the injectors and the fuel that flows through the rails. Keeping fuel as cool as possible increases density, which helps engine performance and efficiency. FR Shields are available in kits to fit single- or dual-rail systems and they can be custom ordered to fit special applications. [03/29/19]
