Goldsboro, North Carolina’s Brandon Lane claimed the biggest share of the purse in the 21st annual “Big John” Memorial Weekend Bracket Nationals at Rockingham Dragway and capped his Top Eliminator success with a victory in Sunday’s National Dragster Challenge.

With bad weather pending and several hundred racers on the grounds, Shawn  Langdon (yes, the driver of the Global Technology Funny Car) and partner Chris Forsythe had to make a decision. They combined both big payout days into one huge double-up show on Saturday. This meant the regular Super Pro winner as well as the Special Pro Shoot Out winner would each receive $20,000. And the Pro winner took home $9,000 as well.

The Pro winner boiled down to Andy Schmall from Idaho Falls, ID, driving a 1988 Chevrolet Beretta, while the runner up went to Jeff LaSalle of Cloverdale, CA, with his 1967 Dodge R/T.

The highly advertised 64 car PRO SHOOT OUT was claimed by D.J. Houmard of nearby Palmdale, CA driving his 1963 Corvette. D.J. edged out Las Vegas racer Greg Hicks with a better reaction time of .010 to Hicks’ good but losing .034. [05/29/19]

Hot Shot’s Secret, a leading brand of high performance fuel and oil additives for gas and diesel vehicles, announces sponsorship of the first ever Outlaw Diesel Revenge presented by Firepunk Diesel. The event, scheduled for Friday, May 31, and Saturday, June 1, is part of the Outlaw Diesel Super Series held at Kil-Kare Raceway in Xenia, Ohio.

Typical for ODSS events, there will be normal class testing and qualifying runs including ET, 7.70, 6.70, 5.90, Pro Street, Pro Mod, and Pro Dragster on Friday, as well as a “Friday Night Street Fight” featuring a big tire and small tire competition.

During the day on Saturday, all classes will compete as usual for the ODSS, right down to the semi-finals, at which point the drag racing will be shut down and crowd engagement and involvement will be magnified like the series has never seen before with the special “Saturday Night Finale Fueled by Hot Shot’s Secret!”   [05/29/19]

There was no NHRA racing last weekend, but that doesn’t mean the John Force Racing team members weren’t thinking about this weekend’s race in Joliet, IL.

“We just had a weekend off and I went to the Indy 500 and supported my brother-in-law, Graham Rahal and spent the weekend with Courtney,” said Brittany Force. “We did some fun radio spots for Advance Auto Parts. It was good to have a weekend off and I’m ready to get to Chicago to start the four-in-a-row.”

Through eight races so far this year, John Force is one of only a handful of pro drivers who hasn’t lost a first-round race, but he is especially hoping to win his 150th NHRA national event this week.

“Bottom line, we keep putting ourselves in a position to win,” he said. “I’m getting more confident every week. I’m using every trick I’ve got to run with these kids but it’s gonna happen.”

Brittany and John Force will be making a special fan appearance at the Advance Auto Parts store on Thursday, May 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. at 2510 W Jefferson Street in Joliet, IL, after the entire John Force Racing team visits PEAK’s parent company, Old World Industries, headquartered in Northbrook, IL.
