Sobrino clinches win for NMRA at ‘Super Bowl’

At the NMCA/NMRA Super Bowl of Street-Legal Racing at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, IL, Carlos Sobrino and his wild “Joker” ’88 Mustang got his second win in as many races, marking the Godfather of Coyote Stock’s recent comeback as truly impressive. Even more incredible, Sobrino was the one to clinch the Super Bowl-winning victory in the very last round over Haley Burkhammer of NMCA's Chevrolet Performance Stock and earned the Nitto Tire Diamond Tree rings for Team NMRA.

Beswick takes ‘Tiger’ to Pontiac Nationals

Everything from Tempests to Trans Ams will have the track for the 28th Annual Ames Performance Tri-Power Pontiac Nationals, Aug. 2-4, at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, OH.

The event considered to be the largest of its kind in the country will offer bracket and heads-up racing as well as a car show, swap-meet, manufacturers’ midway and opportunities to buy or sell Pontiacs.

Nostalgia Super Stockers will be in the spotlight, and popular Pontiac racer Arnie “The Farmer” Beswick, who has piloted plenty of Super Stockers and Funny Cars through the years, including his 1964 GTO nicknamed the “Tameless Tiger,” will talk with fans and sign autographs.

Jeffree moves to Super Sedan class for Australian Sportsman Series

Des Jeffree will make a return to Super Sedan racing this weekend at the 2019/2020 Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Series opening Desert Nationals at Alice Springs Inland Dragway (Aug. 3-4) in Australia.

He will also compete in round two of the Series – the NT Nationals – the very next weekend at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Drag Strip.

Racing since 2012, Jeffree has made appearances in Super Sedan over the years but until now has been more well known in the Super Street ranks for his exploits aboard his Holden Commodore VZ. He has acquired Dave Yanco’s Holden HQ Ute and Yanko will help Jeffree get used to the car and set up at the beginning of the 2019/20 season.

“The ute is just a whole different ball game – it is bigger, it is louder, and it is significant jump for me to go from a 333 cubic inch engine to 565 cubic inches!” Jeffree said.

“The speed of the bracket is a real drawcard for me too – I have this theory that the older you get, the faster you have to go because you have less time to get there!” Jeffree laughed.
