Steve Venables took the Super Street Bike at the Nitrolympx at Hockenheimring, Germany. He set the speed record at 212.09 mph and leads the championship points with one event to go for the two-wheel competitors at Santa Pod.
See all the Nitrolympx results from DRO European correspondents Ivan Sansom and Rose Hughes here.
The remaining European rounds of the 2019 season are: Aug. 22-25 Scandinavian Internationals, Tierp Arena, Sweden (FIA only); and Sept. 5-8 FIA/FIM European Finals, Santa Pod Raceway, UK. [08/22/19]
After not qualifying for Norwalk’s Night Under Fire last week, Steve Easton and the “Patriot” Pro Mod team realized they needed to do a full tear down of the ’63 Corvette Pro Mod following the event. The team discovered some chassis damage which is not unusual but had to be repaired before they make their way to Dragway 42’s Rock n Race in the Outlaw 660 series.
“After the Night Under Fire we stripped the whole car down. We create so much torque that eventually you will get cracks in the chassis and that is what we found,” explained Easton, who works on the car as well as drives. “We are fixing that issue right now and will be ready to get on the track again this weekend to race at Dragway 42. Our biggest issue has been the Patriot Pro Mod is finally running the right way. We had it running last season, but the parts and systems weren’t reaching their full potential. Now we have everything squared away but we are basically back to square one with a tune-up.” [08/22/19]
Word reaches the Agent that the long-time Pro Mod race team of Jim Oddy (owner and tuner) and Fred Hahn (driver) will be together this weekend at Dragway 42.
Oddy turned to building gassers after he retired from his engine shop and has built a new gasser after selling the multi-championship winning “Junkyard Dog” driven by JR Ward. Summit, longtime sponsor of Oddy’s Pro Mods was happy to get involved with the new ’48 Austin gasser.
Photographer Pat Donahue will be at Dragway 42 to give us a look at all the action. [08/22/19]
Stephens replaces Jim Hairston, who will be moving to a new role with PerTronix working with Business Development and Acquisitions. [08/22/19]
And, the NHRA says, TEC seats are still available (for you geezers, TEC is Top Eliminator Club). The times they are a-changing. [08/22/19]
