ORSCA/YEAR ONE/INDEX RACERS - ATLANTA

In addition to the heads-up, no breakout classes that make up a majority of the ORSCA races the Atlanta/Year One race also included many index classes including the event sponsor Year One’s YO classes. DRO decided to give these racers their own separate coverage for this event. They’re certainly an important part of the show and deserving of the coverage.

Jon Phillips continued his winning ways in the Year One Open class, qualifying his ’74 Datsun Z-car number one with a record 7.955-seconds pass at 172.59 mph, then advancing to run unopposed in the final (8.005/171.69) when number-two qualifier Phillip Bridges couldn’t answer the call to stage.

ORSCA 7.0 competitor Kevin Thompson (far lane) entered his 1970 Cutlass in Year One’s 11.0 index quarter-mile race at Atlanta and made it all the way to the final round against Valerie Anderson from Hixson, TN. At the green, Anderson’s ’97 Camaro moved first with a .110 redlight, allowing Thompson to take the win home to Glasgow, KY. In the 10.0 final, number-one qualifier Drew Rogers, driving his ’83 Z-28 from Milledgeville, GA, prevailed over Keith May, who broke out with his ’84 S-10 pick-up.

The Year One 12.0 final saw Loganville, GA’s John Cox win with a 12.034 at 98.52 mph pass in his ’67 Pontiac Tempest over Peter Roganski, who also broke out at 11.975 in his Chevy truck.

Cumming, GA’s Mel Abney drove his first-gen Camaro to a double-breakout win in the Year One 13.0 final, going 12.976/105.50 against the 12.836/105.23 by Phil Bonner in his 2000 Vette from Lilburn, GA.
