PSCA at Fontana

The Pacific Street Car Association made its first appearance of 2009 at Auto Club Dragway in Fontana, Calif. Friday was bright and sunny for test and tune and most of Hughes Pro Street cars made at least one attempt down the quarter mile.

Chassis builder Bill Hickok made license runs in Clint Hairston’s GTO and said it was a blast. Hairston let Hickock make the runs for all the special chassis work and helping them at the track.

Ed Thornton made a number of attempted runs in his new Corvette and his crew must have been checking the Plastic Man’s fillings in his teeth as on every run the car shook the tires badly and Ed would have to get off the throttle. Big Ed was still having the same trouble on Saturday, but his last run netted him a great 6.354 at 226.66 for the number two spot right behind Hairston, who was sitting in the number one spot with his best run ever, a 6.23 e.t. at 226.mph.
