In Friday’s test & tune, Randy Walker made his best run ever, laying down a 6.29 e.t. Randy was confident that they had turned the corner and were getting his ‘75 El Camino sorted out. (James Drew photo)

On race day, due to the breakage and not a full field, there were a few singles in the first two rounds. This benefitted Clint Hairston, who had a bye in the first round and beat Dan Myers in the second. In the third round he shook the tires on a single when Randy Walker could not make the semi’s.

On the other side of the ladder, Shane Tecklenburg was in the house and, along with all the other great crew members, got a handle on the Plastic Man’s Corvette. Thornton ran great all day and he and his crew were standing in the winner’s circle at the end of the day, when Hairston had mechanical woes in the final.

In Extreme Drag Radial, Alen Stewart’s ’68 Camaro ran a 7.868 at 178.02 while Rich Hoyle had a reaction time of .242 to doom his ’63 Nova’s 8.107/172.32.
