Coming off his first-ever career Pro Mod win at last month’s Super Chevy Show event in Fontana, Marc Meadors qualified in the #6 spot with a conservative 7.009 at 185.31 on the tricky track surface. In eliminations, Meadors, in the left lane charged straight down track to record a career-best run, clicking off a 6.429 at 218.04 mph in his loss to event runner-up Jay Diedrich who ran a 6.443 at 222.56 mph.

In the Pro Mod final, Jay Diedrich's '57 Chevy (near lane) came up against Lee Smith's beautiful '58 Corvette. Diedrich was out in front but broke the blower belt, allowing Smith to drive around him. Smith was on and off the throttle and took the win with a 7.320 at 181.67 against Diedrich's 9.063 at 99.22.

On Mark Sanders’s Mr. Explosive funny car. Ain’t it the truth!

As a bonus for the spectators Dennis LaCharite’s GTO squared off against Jeff Atamian's “Beast” jet dragster (above left). Dennis had the quicker 60-foot time, but the jet won with an impressive 6.398-second, 257.31-mph pass to the GTO’s on-and-off-the-throttle 6.921 at 222.788. The fans in the grandstands were on their feet.  (Jason Ellis photo)
