Ed Sigmon (far lane) got his first win in over 40 years. Here he runs past NHRA national event champion Jim Cowan in the first round of Competition Eliminator.

Almost Blown Away!

Nearly 400 sportsman competitors from across the country traveled to Auto Club Dragway in Fontana, Calif., to compete at the JEGS NHRA Pacific SPORTSnationals presented by K&N. Featured NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series categories include Comp Eliminator, Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street. The division’s Top Sportsman and Top Dragster classes along with Sportsman Motorcycle presented by Harley Davidson also ran in conjunction with the race.

Ed Sigmon won his first NHRA national event title in more than 40 years and Mark Faul triumphed for the second straight year as champions were crowned Sunday, April 19.

High wind gusts forced officials to shorten the racing distance to an eighth-mile for the Sunday final eliminations. Here NHRA Division 7 Director Mike Rice talks with some of the racers.
