The sweet looking side valve “flat head” powered ’28 T Bucket of George Livas might not have figured in the final results but we must admit it is a great looking machine. He qualified last with a 16.53 in the Hot Rod bracket and only won one of the three rounds of competition but despite this, truly reflected the spirit of the bracket.

Usually at home running the press room at Willowbank Raceway, Brisbane’s Peter Duffy was instead behind the wheel of his 34 Ford Coupe. The clown faced coupe qualified with a 10th best 8.87/150 and took a first round win before not being able to return in the second round. A third round loss to Andrew Musgrave meant that he didn’t take a place in the final but billowing burnouts like this put a smile on many a dial over the course of the day.

As can be seen here the little 208 Holden six cylinder powered slingshot dragster of Brenton Holmes is pointed any which way but straight. Despite being magnetised to the right hand wall Holmes was able to put the digger back on track and live to fight another day. After qualifying sixth with a 10.45 three straight losses put him back on the trailer.
