The biggest surprise of the event came from Arnold, Missouri’s John DeFlorian, whose ADRL Pro Nitrous Corvette unleashed a track record for eighth-mile nitrous doorslammers with a career-best 4.02/185.59. Now teamed with the Bankston Brothers operation, DeFlorian overcame a lazy 1.02-second sixty-feet ET with an impressive “back-half” ET, (from 330 feet to 660 feet), of 1.33 seconds to show the team is making plenty of power.

Kentuckian Scott Carman, (near lane), drove the Mayfield & Hodges 582-inch Chevy-powered digger to this final-round match with Iowa standout Lane Dicken only to redlight by five thousandths of a second in an all-Undercover Chassis battle for the Jeg’s Super Quick Series title. Carman came from the sixty-third, (next-to-last!), qualifying slot; the field stretched from 4.51 to 5.04 seconds after only two available qualifying sessions.

At the wheel of one of the winningest vehicles in drag racing history, Arkansas killer Tony Fuller earned the Super Street (10.90 Index) Shootout victory with a holeshot over St. Louisan Lou Murray, 10.92/136.33 to 10.91/150.03, while closing up the margin of victory to nine thousandths of a second. The ‘69 Firebird has won major bracket titles as well as NHRA Open, Divisional, National and World Championships with several different drivers.
