The Renteria boys must be ZZ Top fans, eh?

Last year’s Heritage AAGS Champion was on hand and was the #2 qualifier at 6.695/208.65 mph. That was the Nor Cal (Holllister, CA) based Jerry Bickel-built four-door ‘65 Valiant of Sean, Tom and Mike Renteria.

They usually tow their classic Valiant with a matching Valiant tow vehicle but opted not to bring it all the way to Fontana for this meet. A big BAE big block sits between the frame rails of the black Mopar.

Mike Leonard’s rather budget type 1966 Chevelle is the same car that he and his wife, Linda, have run for about the past decade but they have always updated the many time Champion car from Pleasanton, CA. He and his crew have chosen an Alan Johnson powerplant and they clocked a 6.880 at 200.08 mph with the bright yellow machine for #3.

The latest AAGS to hit the 1320 is the brand new 1960 wild and crazy Chevy Impala with skulls and wings (lead photo). Matt and Rob Moore are no strangers to the sport as the El Cajon-based team run out of both Moore Performance Products and Lenco Engineering. A huge KB is housed in the frame rails of this monster. The brothers have taken 12 years just to complete this project. A 6.944/189.15 was good enough for #4.
