The Moore Brothers and their engine. Chuck Moore (left) and Steve Woods.

Last but not least in our look at these cars is the two-headed entry of Steve Woods and Chuck Moore. Last year Woods handled the 1963 KB-powered Corvette to the second place in points but has turned the reins over to Moore in 2009. Both are exceptional drivers and they both enjoy either role so it’s going to be a great year for this team.

Tire shake held back the team, with a sub-par 7.069 at 176.30 mph.

In the first round Kaplan took a 6.409/217.46 for a single blast. Leonard’s Chevelle (shown) took quick advantage of the famed Moore Brothers wild Impala with a nice, easy 6.639/204.35 mph. when Rob Moore spun the tires momentarily to run a close but losing 6.901 at 197.74 mph. Chuck Moore was lightning sharp on the tree at .037 RT to a .123 RT but his 6.872/200.14 was not enough to hold off the powerful Renteria Valiant’s 6.737/207.69.

In the second round Sean Renteria got the odd lot single and eased to a nice 6.708 at 208.84 mph. Next up both Leonard and Kaplan left dead even on the tree, but once again the Bearshaw-backed Vette blasted to a superior 6.414/208.94 over a trailing but game 6.670/204.46 for Leonard.

It was Canada versus USA in the final of AAGS, with both drivers exceptionally sharp on the tree. Kaplan and his team were not to be denied, turning in a fine 6.399/218.23 over the Renterias at 6.721/208.81.
