PRO STREET

Clint Hairston got the bye and ran it out to try and get lane choice, winding up with a 6.437 at 223.88. The next pair was Randy Walker and his newly sponsored RC Construction Services El Camino against the Magna Fuel Monte Carlo of Kelly Bluebaugh. Walker’s RT of .011 would be too much for Bluebaugh to overcome. The next pair saw the ‘57 Chevy Bel Air of Jay Diedrich up against the Plastic Man himself in the new black Corvette. Both drivers had nearly the same RT: Diedrich .077 to Thornton .078, but Diedrich lost tire grip and Thornton (shown) ran a 6.474 at 219.29.

Round two saw Randy Walker walk all over Clint Hairston, with a 6.407 at 217.91 to Hairston’s 8.692 at 111.49. Ed Thornton had a bye run, and the stage was set for a thrilling final round between Thornton and Walker, only to have high winds intervene, causing the final rounds to be canceled.

OUTLAW 10.5

Byre runs are a necessary evil in racing, and the cool-looking Mustang of Doug Sikora would get the bye in round one. The next trip down the eighth-mile paired Rich Zehring and Dave Boles. Zehring ran a 5.761 at 91.87, while Bales was stalled by problems.

The other side of the ladder hosted a similar outcome in the matchup between Chris Alston and Slim Zeinaty (shown). Alston had problems and Zeinaty ran 4.697 at 156.22 for the win.

Round two started off with another bye run, as Zehring advanced to the final round uncontested. Meanwhile, Sikora proved that he didn’t need an empty lane next to him to win, as he trounced Zeinaty with a 4.523 at 168.91 against Zeinaty’s 4.958 at 134.81. How the duel between Sikora and Zehring would have turned out, we’ll never know, as Mother Nature decided to open her own exhibition of speed, with high winds forcing the cancelation of the final rounds.
