There is an old saying in sports that goes, “A tie is like kissing your sister.” Well, after a final rain shower Sunday, June 14, at the Indy Goodguys event there was a lot of sister kissing going on in Central Indiana.

The Goodguys Hot Rod Nationals was a great race except for the last 15 minutes Sunday night when a third rain delay in one day was one too many and the race was concluded without the final rounds being completed.

Despite that, the drag racing fans who attended the Goodguys events were treated to some excellent racing including the first NHRA-legal AA/FC to make a 5.960 pass by Paul Romine in his Mike Spitzer-built, Mike Cavalieri-tuned Mustang and a stellar performance from West Coast Top Fuel racer Denver Schutz who drove his 392 hemi-powered dragster to a string of 5.80/250 mph laps. [Note: in the interest of fair reporting, Kyle Wurtzel ran a 5.99 in his Nostalgia Funny Car but it was on 36-inch tires with 35% overdrive on the blower, a four-disk clutch and a 25-gallon fuel pump, none of which are legal for NHRA Nostalgia Funny Car.]
