In Funny Car it didn't seem so straight forward, as only about a third of the cars made it to the stripe under power. Noteworthy were regulars Dennis Taylor and Keeter Ray both not making the field as they struggled to tame the track.

On the up side, Ken Webster threw down a personal best to take the pole with a 5.606/258.42, dropping Gasparrelli and Hough to #2 and 3. Using support from the Brian Hough camp, Brian Thiel took the #4 spot.

Pole sitters in some other classes racing this weekend were Clint Neff in Comp, Byron Setters in Super Stock, Dallas Glenn in Stock, Frank Tamez (shown) with an amazing 6.337/221 in Top Sportsman, and Paul Gladden in Top Dragster.

Eliminations for Alcohol were due to be completed on the Saturday and they gave a good shot. Round one of Funny Car had the first pairing of Clint Thompson and Brian Thiel -- for sure a race Thiel would love to get back as he went red by .007 only to see Thompson's car put some fluid down and lost traction, but a 17-second pass was enough.

After a clean up of the left lane, Hough (above) took out Sean Bellemeur with more horsepower and a clean run. Gasparrelli had an easy win over Lombardo who was slow off the start and took out a cone.  Ken Webster took the final spot in the semis as he made a clean pass over a traction-challenged John Evanchuk.

In Dragster, Federlin's return continued to show he's still got the moves as he won with a holeshot over Brandon Johnson. Superior horsepower gave Shawn Cowie a comfortable win over Gregg Lawrence while Doug Hegge ran a solid 6.38 but lost to Joey Severance and the holeshot in the third pairing.

Heartbreak in the final pair saw Bart break after the burnout, no doubt wondering what might have been as Dale Carlson caught a break because he broke about half-track himself.
