After reaching the final round and having engine failure at the opening event in Phoenix, the Glen Walton Racing 1964 Falcon driven by “Wild Bill” Hickok missed the SpringNationals in April. Well, the team was back at it again and not much has changed as the team put the Falcon in the #1 spot with a potential e.t. record of 9.306, followed closely by the P/S entry of Tony Aneian 8.345, Ron Shaw 9.763, Evan Brandt 10.320 and Anthony Valentio (No Time).

Hickok got a bye in the first round but went fort the record and got it, backing it up with a nice 9.316 at 143.76. He beat Shaw in the second round 9.343/143.40 to 9.974/137.99.

Aneian took a win over Valentio and a bye run into the finals.

So the final round would pit the #1 versus #2 qualifier, quickest M/P versus quickest P/S car. The big question was if Tony would be able to cut a good enough light to beat the Falcon, which would leave first by one second. When the tree dropped it was the M/P Falcon with the better R/T .102 to.146, but the Camaro was reeling him in and when they got to the stripe, it was Hickok holding off Aneian, 9.312 at 143.35 to 8.296 at 163.42. Team Walton Racing got the win by .028!

A/Gas winner Frank Merenda. Wow, what a car!

The next West Coast Hot Rod Race will be on July 17-18,  night racing at Auto Club Famoso Raceway.
