Jay Diedrich’s ’57 Chevy “Evil Outlaw” just missed the field, qualifying in the 9th spot with a 6.955 at 211.02 mph.

Saturday’s afternoon qualifying session came in the heat of the day and Marc Meadors and Troy Ferry were the only two who could improve on their numbers. Meadors went 6.354 at 227.97 to take the number 3 spot and Ferry got into the field in the number 7 spot with a 6.875/218.34.

Lee Smith injured his motor during the second session of qualifying and Diedrich and Bailey were both broke as well, so Sean Renteria (above) took Smith’s place on the ladder to run first round as an alternate.
