The final round set up good friends Rod Burbage and Randy Kay. Both cars’ engines were tuned by Lonnie Houde, both cars chassis’ were tweaked by Bob Bunker Jr. and both cars were running Burbage’s Spec-Rite Torque Converters. They were number 1 and 2 qualifiers running in the .20’s and .30’s all weekend long and everyone gathered at the starting line because they knew it was going to be a good final round race.

Kay left on Burbage on the line and both cars were drifting out of the groove on the top end but neither would lift. Side by side they ran and around 1,000 feet Kay got too loose and wisely dumped the chutes to straighten himself out allowing Burbage to thunder through the finish line first with a career-best ET and mph – 6.236 at 234.68. Kay still clocked a 6.283/205.02, which made this the quickest and fastest side-by-side Pro Mod race at Sacramento Raceway Park.

With this event win Rod and Melynda Burbage now lead the WCOPMA points. Rod and Melynda not only work hard on racing with the group but they run the West Coast Outlaw Pro Mod association as well.

The WCOPMA’s next stop is Medford, Oregon, on July 4th. For a complete race schedule and more information on the association, go to www.WestCoastOutlawProMods.com
