After the racing, there was a fantastic fireworks display put on by auto Club Speedway and the Stater Bros. grocery store chain.

SCEDA at Fontana

The fifth and sixth events of the 10-race Southern California Drag Racing Association series were held July 4 and 5 at Auto Club Dragway, Fontana, Calif. The Pro Gas Association also took part in the event.

Ryan Priddy won the July 4th Southern California Top Comp over Val Torres.

In the Meziere Enterprises Electronics class it was Andrew Madrid taking the win over Tom Bayer Sr. Bayer went red, handing Madrid his first SCEDA victory. By winning the event, Madrid qualified to take part in the Pacific High Reach Shootout at the end of the year. He also got a nice payday of $1000 and a SCEDA Big Guy trophy. In the semis, Madrid defeated Don Gatlin and in the other semi, Bayer defeated Rob Strong. 

The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by Don Gatlin who ran 7.843 on his 7.84 dial to take the $70 prize. Cal Automotive gave $50 to the first person to go red in eliminations and today this award went to Greg Tremain who went red by .001 the first pair out. 

In the Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels No-Electronics Class, it was Dick Krieger taking the victory over Marvin Roles.  Krieger qualified for the year-end Pacific High Reach Shootout, got $816, and won a SCEDA Big Guy Trophy. In the semis, Krieger defeated Chris Soliz and in the other semi, Roles defeated Mike Agnew. 

The Arias Pistons Dial Rite was won by John Joines who ran a 14.252 on his 14.25 dial to take the $140 prize. Cal Automotive also gave $50 to the first competitor to go red in No-E as well and today it was Jack Shippy. Ron Miller and West Coast Super Cops had put up $100 to anyone who could cut a perfect light in eliminations both days at the previousevent.  However, no one claimed this on Sunday, so it carried over to this race and in the third round of the SCEDA Series Mickey Thompson Performance Tires and Wheels No-E, it was eventual semi finalist Mike Agnew claiming the prize with a perfect light to defeat CW Hoefer.
