“I just can’t say enough about our team,” Owens said. “They scrambled to put that back-up motor in and just did an amazing job, every one of the them. I had total confidence in them that they were going to get everything done.”

Oklahoman Cary Goforth was on his game all weekend in Extreme Pro Stock, where 800+ cubic inch race gas burning engines are the norm, reclaiming the points lead by winning Rockingham’s postponed Dragstock VII event on Friday and then padded his lead by defeating mountain-motored Pro Stock icon competitor John Montecalvo in Saturday’s XPS finals.

After the Saturday race Goforth said, “I’ve got a good crew and that’s the truth. We had a consistent car, but it was also consistently faster and quicker than anybody out there this weekend.”

Three-Second Club charter member Chuck Ulsch picked up his third win of the 2010 season in Extreme 10.5 competition.

Ulsch got a win when XTF ET record holder Dan Millen red-lighted in the final. Millen had previously set a new world E.T. record with a 3.78 and consistently ran in the low 3.80s during eliminations.

There was plenty of drama in the Extreme Ten-Five class on Saturday courtesy of Ulsch and his crew. After wounding a motor in the semifinals he and his crew had a major thrash trying to repair the damage and make the final round.

“Everybody was down there. There was probably about 20 people thrashing on the car,” Ulsch said. “But you gotta get up (to the starting line) to win it. I’m just pumped.”

The win wasn’t enough to get Ulsch enough points to qualify for the Oct. 22-23 Battle for the Belts and the 2011 season opener in Dallas, but Ulsch was the one with the Minuteman trophy afterwards.
