In Outlaw 10.5, Bill Glidden from Whiteland, Ind., led from the pole in his Ford Hemi-powered ’10 Mustang.  Glidden, on a solo run in the final round motored down the Vegas quarter mile for the class win when number-two qualifier Mike Murillo’s luck ran out as he damaged his engine in previous rounds of racing.  During eliminations Glidden’s 6.404 elapsed time was low ET for the class.

Unfortunately, with fast doorslammer racing comes out of control racecars. On Saturday night Eric “Wildman” Peterson literally stopped the show when his ’69 Firebird swerved left off the starting line and smacked the guard wall, knocking Peterson unconscious.  With the throttle stuck wide open, the Firebird swung around to smack the right guard wall one more time on the driver’s side as the engine continued to blaze.

The LVMS safety crew cut Peterson out of the crash and he was back at the track on Sunday after a visit to the local hospital.

Rich Hoyle and his ’63 Nova took home the cash for winning Extreme Drag Radial over Chris Groves in the final round.  Hoyle, who came from the number-six qualified position, ran a 7.421 ET at 179.23 mph to Groves’ off pace 8.142 ET.

Pennsylvanian Michael DeMayo in his ‘95 Mustang won the Hot Street class, while the Wild Street winner was Jeff Kyle driving his ’00 Mustang. Street Challenge winner Rich Hatch took home the trophy in his ’91 Mustang.

We’ll have a lot more pan smashing, fire balling, wall-banging photos, great action and an in-depth report on this year’s Street Car SuperNationals in the Tuesday edition of DRO.
