Randy Rencher singled with a 4.72 @ 117.92 when E.J. Hickle’s black Willys would not fire up. Richard Willett and Chris Smith both suffered mechanical breakage after their qualifying attempts, and that meant tenth qualifier Rob Urdiales would step in and face off with Eric Clark. The Clarks turned a few knobs and busted out a great 4.10 @ 173.75 from the Stang and ran away from Urdiales game effort of 4.61 @ 143.68mph.

Semifinals & Finals

The first pair matched Eric Stubbs’ turbo ‘63 split window ‘Vette and Jeff Benham's blown ‘56 ‘Vette. Eric got the jump with a .0236 R.T. to Benham's .0752 R.T. and outran the purple beast, running 4.22 @ 155.87mph to Benham's 4.57 @ 125.38. Stubbs’ win came at a cost however as a wrist pin broke and caused extensive damage to the motor and transmission leaving a trail of smoke that killed any mosquitos in the general area.

The second pair had Eric Clark matched up against Randy Rencher. The repair work that Rencher and crew performed on the damaged oil pan caught them out as no oil pressure after firing the motor forced Randy to shut it down and give the single to Eric Clark. Clark ran 4.60 @ 168.86mph for the semi final win.
