Glendale, Arizona’s Mike DePalma and his I/SM Firebird held onto the No. 2 spot with former NHRA National Champion and professional sportsman racer Dan Fletcher, traveling all the way from Churchville, NY, in the third spot in his B/EA ’09 Cobalt.
The Hughes-sponsored Top Dragster class qualifying found Stephanie Crifasi from Henderson, Nev., at the top of the list with a 6.555/204.45 pass in her Neil & Parks chassied dragster. Bellflower’s Russell Suyenaga was second with a 6.560/213.06 clocking, and Chip Rumis landed third going into eliminations running a 6.641 ET at 203.40 mph.
Riverside, Calif., racer Ron Weems qualified in the number one spot in Top Sportsman - which had 24 entries - covering the quarter mile in 6.825 seconds at 203.06 mph in his ’07 GTO. Chip Rumis in his ’06 Cobalt, who also ran in Top Sportsman qualified second with a 6.915 ET at 200.98 mph. Joe Roubieck’s ’68 Camaro qualified third at a 7.010 ET at 195.70 mph.
There was no winner in Top Sportsman due to weather. Weems and five other racers were still in after two rounds of action.
