A History Lesson

The second annual Detroit Dragway Reunion proved to be a huge success, with room for plenty of growth during year three in 2012. Milan Dragway was filled with fans who truly remember the Golden Age of Drag Racing, when loyalty, factory identification, trophies, and the glory of winning was more important than corporate sponsorships or huge purses.

On the track, the Gassers were the real stars of this event. Some of the cars on hand – Mike Kulchinsky's “Kentucky Headhunter” Henry J, Bob Sarkisian's vintage Anglia, Johnny Rotten's injected, velocity stacks equipped '63 Chevy II, Team Timoszyk and their B/G Willys, Larry King's supercharged mouse motor '56 Chevrolet, and Pete Gentile's “Injecticide” '55 Bel Air. They thrilled the crowd with their out-of-shape antics and altered wheelbases, initially setting the tone back in the day for the A/FX class and Funny Cars that were to follow in the evolution of full bodied drag racing machines.

In the pits, spectators were treated to a variety of nostalgia race cars on every level.
