B/GAS

A full 16-car field of B/gassers was out in force at the Rockabilly event. Porterville’s Tim Scott put his 1968 Camaro in the #1 position at 8.752/156.50. The index for this class was 8.75! After Ojai’s Eric Bush in his immaculate ’69 Camaro put away Casey Trear’s ’33 Willys, and Jim Stewart fouled out in his ’66 Nova, it was all Camaros in the final with Eric Bush and John Saliani.

Bush (near lane) was poised and ready to get that “Wally” as he first laid a reaction time of .021 to a .043 and then drove his Camaro to an almost perfect 8.759/157.77 to push Saugus, California-based John Saliani’s ride to a too quick 8.712 at1 57.06 mph.  (Donna Bistran photo)

C/GAS

Sixteen C/Gas cars were at the Strip for this event, with Paso Robles, California’s Tom Fowler and his 1970 Camaro setting the pace in the class at 9.753 and 139.65 mph. Glen Copley became one of the last local guys in the show as he made it to the semifinal but ran just a bit too quick at 9.739/136.37 while his competition, Mission Valley’s Justin Sheers ran an even 9.801, 135.47 mph for the win. The beautiful ’66 El Camino of Nick Kendrick from Lake Havasu, Ariz., cut a .006 light to defeat Copley too!

Both drivers ran a little too quickly in their final round too, as Sheers’ Nova had a starting line slight advantage and ran closer to the index at 9.738, 137.04 mph over Kendrick’s’ 9.721, 134.60 mph. (James Drew photo)
