The biggest surprise of both qualifying sessions was event winner this year, Paul Brandt, did not make the show in the potent black IROC Z.

Kurt Heble

The first pair up in eliminations saw Kurt Heble up against points leader Chris Domino. This match up provided the biggest upset of the night, as it appeared Domino two-stepped the throttle and then spun the tires when he did get off the line. Heble logged a .077 RT at the green and ran 4.73 at 17.44.
