The Vance and Hines 1655cc racing engine in the Suzuki TLR 1000 of Maurice Allen is seen here with father “Pommie Pete” Allen making some minor adjustments. Allen senior is a former Top Fuel dragster and Fuel Bike rider of some note and of interest is the fact that both father and son won a Pro Category at the 1991 Nationals – Peter in Top Bike and Maurice in Pro Bike. The bike was freshened up before the race with some new parts being upgraded. Maurice said of their partnership - “My father and I teamed up together, he took care of all the maintenance and I just had to worry about the riding duties. Dad's knowledge and expertise in building engines has shown through. I said to Dad 'let's do this together' and we had a great first season and a lot of fun”. For the record, after qualifying third, Maurice took out the Pro Stock bracket win against Luke Crowley who broke on the money run.

Luke Crowley has become an overnight sensation in Pro Stock bike with a win at the 2012 Nationals and solid runs in the 7.2s coming into this event. Crowley picked up where he left off when he top qualified with a 7.386/176.28 and then used a 7.227 to beat Chris Manera’s Suzuki and went even quicker with a 7.174 to take out the similar bike of Glenn Wooster who red lighted to boot. Crowley therefore was the odds on favourite to win the event, however a piston broke about three hundred feet out in the final frame and he had to watch Maurice Allen click the win light.
