After Phil Howard pulled out Peter Cochrane’s ZX7R (near lane) was the only Kawasaki in a field of Suzukis and is seen here heading Chris Manera’s Suzuki TLR on the first qualifying run – 7.860 to an 8.039. Cochrane, red lighted by a couple of tenths in his first round race against eventual winner, Maurice Allen, who won with a 7.435. It was a similar fate for Manera who also lost in the first round, feeling the lash of Luke Crowley 7.227 that took him out by half a second.

Current Australian Pro Stock Bike champion, Lachie Ireland managed to qualify fourth with a 7.466/173.78 on his Vance and Hines Suzuki. Unfortunately for the champ his first round race with Glen Wooster didn’t go to plan as Wooster took a slight lead off the line and turned that into a win when his 7.493/172.94 was too good for Ireland’s 7.514/171.25.
