The finals paired a couple of Chevy II’s, Jones in his TTSBC ‘65 vs Keller’s ProCharged SBC ’64. Although Jones had been the quickest and most consistent car in eliminations, Keller was looking for his first WCHRA win. Jones had a big advantage at the Tree, 0.042 to 0.248 but he spun the tires early and had to pedal the throttle. Keller jumped out to a two-car-length advantage and held off the hard-charging Jones with a 5.414 run at 136 mph to a 5.635/149 for Jones.
