Pro Drag Radial racer Kyle Huettel.

ADRL at Richmond, Virginia

What’s a few rain drops when there’s racing to be done!

Mother Nature flexed her muscles but could not put a damper on the ADRL Simply Phones U.S. Drags VI held June 8-9 at Virginia Motorsports Park. Tropical Storm Andrea dumped a lot of water on VMP and it took awhile to perform the usual pre-race track preparation. Saturday qualifying was delayed until about 4 p.m. and shortened to just two rounds. But plenty of action made up for the wait. In fact, it was the largest car-count ever at an ADRL event.

PRO DRAG RADIAL

Pro Drag Radial is new to the ADRL Tour at this event and it proved to be a popular class with 23 cars competing for the 16-car field. Racers from Canada to Florida and even Texas came to see who had the quickest car on the eighth mile.

Kyle Huettel of Cypress, Texas, took the number-one qualifying spot in his 2002 Camaro with a 4.280 at 175.16 mph. Ironically, Huettel boiled the hides and was eliminated in the first round by the number 16 qualifier, Kenny Hubbard’s 2000 Camaro, also from Texas.
