PSCA Street Car Super Nationals X at Las Vegas

What a Finish!

Thursday afternoon, Nov. 20, we were at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and the Street Car Super Nationals, the big race of the season for Mel Roth’s Pacific Street Car Association. This was the 10th consecutive season ending event on the popular PSCA calendar.

As we approached the raceway we expected about 100 early bird racers to brave the cool weather and arrive early. Wow! The pits were full, absolutely packed with racers and crews from all over the nation.

It seems the brain trust, headed by Roth himself, decided to offer a special eliminator run-off during the Thursday qualifying session at 4 p.m. This reporter counted 37 Pro Mods in the lanes for the early rounds of this new twist. As the action began, several cars made low 6-second passes.

Then one of the headliners came to the line and 5.74 seconds later, the West Coast’s Mike Maggio had claimed the early lead in qualifying. The time was great but did not hold as the best Pro Mods on the planet were all here at LVMS.

On Friday, Roth offered the Top Qualifier in each category, a $2,000 stipend for being the number one time in their group.
