Holder took the advantage at the tree, .049 to .075, and it was a side by side race to the finish line with Holder taking the win  4.530 @ 179.78 over Coleman’s 4.597 @ 165.44 mph!

 275 vs 28x10.5

Returning for 2014 is the 275 class. Racers asked for the chance to once again compete in WCHRA in a 275 class, and VORTECH Superchargers stepped up as the class sponsor for 2014, giving the racers that chance they asked for. We hope the racers support this WCHRA Class as well as other 275 Radial classes in all associations on the West Coast, so it can continue to grow well into the future.

Eric Gustafson and Crew took the win at the season opening “SPRINGNATIONALS” at Famoso and looked to be the favorite going into Las Vegas, but quite a few racers have committed to running the class and promised to give the white car a run for the money! We did see a few new racers in 275 in Vegas and they are definitely working on their combos, trying to knock Eric Gustafson out of the #1 spot. As in the season opener, it was Eric Gustafson’s VIVA Racecraft, PTP Sponsored, LSX ProCharged powered Fox Body taking the DLRE #1 Qualifier spot with a  4.77 @ 155, #2 Mike Orban’s R.E.S. BBC N2o powered Camaro 4.91 @ 146, #3 Kevin Young 5.03 @ 149 in his SBC ProCharged 3rd Gen Camaro from Idaho, #4 Armen Maghdessian’s beautiful  AES BBC N2o Powered 57 Chevy with a 5.35 @ 141, and #5 Frank Yee’s 7.96 @ 118 in his turbocharged Voodoo Racing Mustang.

Eliminations

Round 1: #1 Qualifier Gustafson received the competition bye and a shot to improve on his qualifying number of 4.77 and did just that with a .621 4.754 @ 156. Next up would be Orban vs Yee. Frank was having trouble spooling the Mustang and it showed in the reaction times; Mike took the win with a nice personal best run of .091 4.874 @ 146 to .454 5.848 @ 133.  Final pair would be Armen vs Kevin Young, who left first with a nice .055 to .113 only to run into traction problems. Armen took advantage, advancing to the SEMI, 5.306 @ 142 to 8.264 @ 56 mph.

SEMI: Semi-Final pair would be Gustafson vs Armen. Armen took a big advantage at the tree with a nice .097 to .259, but Eric would make another quick pass, earning event best for the class and taking the round win 4.715 @ 156.46 to Armen’s 5.304 @ 142.10. Mike Orban would receive the competition bye and moved on to the final round with a spinning .598 8.319 @ 81 mph.

FINALS: In a rematch of the season opener, we had the two quickest cars once again in the final. Mike Orban had the slight advantage in R/T .078 to .089 for Gustafson, but Eric put another quick pass down and Mike went for it, trying to close the gap. It was Gustafson with the win over Orban 4.721 @ 156.53 to 5.530 @ 123.71.
