National Finals, Santa Pod Raceway

The UK domestic season drew to a close in a mix and match fashion, with some outstanding performances, unfortunate withdrawals and some ying and yang to the weather conditions as qualifying on Saturday was frequently interrupted by showers, whilst eliminations on Sunday! Sunday! Sunday! (sorry, too many trips to the track listening to Steve Evans’ Be There!) were conducted under sunny skies.

MSA British Drag Racing Pro Modified Championship

The Pro Mod title was essentially decided before a wheel was turned, with class veteran Andy Robinson picking up his fourth MSA title and first with the Robinson Race Cars built Camaro he debuted last season. Not content with all of that, Robinson (still smiling after being the first Brit to dip into the fives at the preceding Euro Finals event at the same venue a couple of weeks previously) took low qualifier spot with a 6.2664/234.07mph, low ET and the event win (both being tied up with a 6.2502/231.69mph run) over opponent Rick Garrett.

Garrett and his gorgeous giggle gas propelled Willys was also having a pretty good weekend, sorting out the third stage of nitrous to good effect and picking up a new PB ET with a 6.3919/214.95 defeat of Phil Englefield in the opening round of eliminations and improving his terminal speed best on a 6.4069/215.83 run alongside Robinson in the finale.
