The headline grabber on two wheels was once again Steve Venables in ACU Super Street competition. Having picked up the European class trophy at the preceding Euro Finals, he took not inconsiderable aim at securing another domestic championship (although like all of the bike classes featured here one event still remains in mid-October) at the National Finals. With some great atmospheric conditions and a sticky track, eliminations was a fast and furious affair, culminating in Ven scoring the event win ahead of Ven Racing team mate Graham Balchin’s Kawasaki (far lane), with Ven’s D.M.E. built Hayabusa knocking a considerable chunk out of the class ET mark with a 7.0458/205.11 that represented the first seven-oh in Europe and the quickest class pass on E85. Unfortunately it was too quick for a new class record, but Steve had that covered with a backed up 7.142. The class speed record also fell, this time to Garry Bowe thanks to a first round 7.1982/205.18 blast.
