Don Walsh (Turbocharged Mustang)

Don Walsh driving Harry Hruska’s Precision Turbo Mustang was easily the quickest and fastest in the class but didn’t get a win. Todd Tutterow dispatched Walsh in the quarters with a respectable 5.956 coupled with a .030 light and held off Walsh’s quicker and faster 5.915/252.90, but with a .071 RT. Tutterow’s margin of victory was .0008 at the stripe. Hruska said the car rattled the tires early and Walsh pedaled, then had to do it again farther down track and still ran over 252 mph! When the team gets this Larry Jeffers race car sorted out they might dominate.

Tony Christian surfaces

The one-time King of Street-Legal racing, Tony Christian, has retired (again) from driving but is back in the game tuning the Reher-Morrison powered nitrous Camaro of Dan Stevenson. The car ran a very good 5.875/244.92 in the first round of the St. Louis race.

Bill Glidden swaps to fuel injection

Billy Glidden recently teamed up with Sonny Leonard and has one of Sonny’s mountain motors with Electronic Fuel Injection that he has tweaked to his own specs. He is now running solid 5.90’s. Look for Glidden and his Mickey Thompson Tire-backed Mustang to be in the 5.80’s at the last NHRA event at Vegas in October.
