Qualifying and Eliminations

Of the 27 entries only seven were turbocharged and of that seven only three turbocharged teams qualified for the race, but those three were hugely successful on Sunday with a turbo car winning the race and turbocharged cars also collecting the Top Speed and Low ET markers.

When qualifying was completed Saturday night it took an Elapsed Time better than Grosse Pointe, Mich., racer Bob Rahaim’s 5.965/241.67!
 
Walsh put his Camaro on the pole with a 5.860/247.25 lap on Friday that held up for the No. 1 spot heading into Sunday eliminations. Walsh, who was also the top qualifier at the season-opening Gatornationals, now has eight career No. 1 qualifying positions.


Mike Castellana’s nitrous oxide-injected 1969 Camaro is starting to show some life after struggling in the first couple of races this year. He qualified second with a 5.880 at 244.69.
